I saw a bird

“Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree,
Merry, merry king of the bush is he,
Laugh, kookaburra, laugh, kookaburra,
Gay, your life must be!”
This Aussie nursery rhyme has its origins with the Girl Guides in the 1930’s. I chanced upon a kookaburra this week, sitting solitary and majestic. Quite a sight!

Solitary King of the bush
King of the bush
King of the bush has a friend
When his friend joined him, they broke out into an almighty racket to greet the dawn. I had a laugh myself at such a ludicrous and carefree situation. It was cold and my breath looked like smoke; it was a crisp morning in Creswick with a day full of promise.
It is good to laugh, and even better to do it with a friend. We need our friends and we need to laugh. Go find a friend, and find something to laugh at, even if it is an old Girl Guide chorus song about a Kookaburra.
